Ontario’s police watchdog has reported that a 33-year-old man lost his life in a collision involving three vehicles in Windsor on Sunday following a police attempt to stop a pickup truck.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), a Windsor police officer observed a pickup truck of interest traveling northbound on St. Luke Road around 4 p.m. and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The pickup truck failed to comply and continued speeding northbound on St. Luke Road.
The SIU stated in a recent announcement that the pickup truck was subsequently involved in a crash with two other vehicles, one of which was a Dodge Journey. The driver of the Dodge Journey tragically passed away due to the injuries sustained in the collision.
The incident occurred at the intersection of St. Luke Road and Seminole Street in Windsor.
The SIU is requesting individuals with any relevant information, including videos or photos related to the investigation, to come forward.
As an independent civilian law enforcement agency separate from the police, the SIU conducts investigations into incidents involving police that lead to severe injury, death, firearm use against an individual, or allegations of sexual assault.
