“Entire Outback Town for Sale with Just 2 Residents”

Date:

An entire town in Queensland, Australia, with just two residents is now on the market as the current inhabitants have decided to move away. Cooladdi, located in the outback, was once a bustling railway hub with a population of up to 270 people.

Due to the decline of the local sheep industry and the cessation of train services to the area, the town’s population started dwindling over time. Now, the town, situated 500 miles away from Brisbane, is available for purchase at the price of $400,000 (£209,920), which includes the Foxtrap Roadhouse, the town’s keys, and a four-bedroom house.

Comparatively, the cost of acquiring Cooladdi is significantly lower than the average price of a flat in Sydney, valued at around $935,000 (£490,688). Despite its small size, Cooladdi boasts its own post office and unique postcode of 4479.

The current residents, Jo Cornel and Carol Yarrow, who have lived in Cooladdi since February 2023, have decided to move back to Brisbane. Jo wishes to be closer to family, while Carol is nearing retirement age. Carol expressed to ABC that she feels too old for the town now and hopes that someone else will take over.

Although Cooladdi is quite isolated, the residents mention a vibrant community that travels around 70km to visit. Responsibilities in Cooladdi include managing the food, pub, and mail runs as part of the post office.

The sale of Cooladdi is being overseen by local estate agents Charleville Real Estate and Becky Jeisman, who believe that the town, though small, offers a unique change of pace for potential buyers. They also mentioned that if four individuals bought the town, the population would double, bringing new life to the quiet community.
