A theme park incident in north-west Belgium resulted in injuries to five children and two adults, as reported by local police. Emergency responders quickly arrived at Boudewijn Seapark in Bruges following the mishap on Tuesday morning. The individuals suffered “minor” injuries, such as fractures and back pain, and were promptly transported to AZ Sint-Lucas and AZ Sint-Jan hospitals in Bruges.
The affected individuals, accompanied by family members, are receiving care and support, reassured the Bruges local police in a Facebook update. The malfunction occurred on the Spring Ride, which ascends seven meters before a rapid descent, while it was elevated at around four meters. The cause of the malfunction remains unknown, and the park’s manager indicated no prior technical issues with the attraction.
Authorities from the public prosecutor’s office and Belgium’s Federal Public Service are present at the scene to conduct an investigation. The park boasts 20 outdoor attractions, including the Orca Ride roller coaster and the Sancta Maria pirate ship, along with 10 indoor attractions and spacious playgrounds.
This incident follows a recent tragedy in Uttar Pradesh, India, where a Ferris wheel collapsed at a fair, critically injuring at least 10 people. Distressing footage showed the Ferris wheel at the Bhainsaha Mela fair in Khadda tilting sideways and collapsing due to support post failure. Approximately 80 individuals were on the ride, resulting in around 30 injuries, as per police reports.
