Russian drone attacks continue in Kyiv for the fifth consecutive day, causing disruptions and fear among millions of residents. The latest strikes on Monday resulted in injuries to four individuals and damage to various structures in the region, according to regional Gov. Tymur Tkachenko.
The relentless drone assaults, many of them utilizing jet engines, have inflicted casualties, destroyed homes, and caused chaos in Kyiv and its vicinity. A recent attack on an ammunition depot led to a devastating explosion that claimed the lives of 38 people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed concern on Sunday, stating that Russia’s ongoing drone onslaught is designed to exhaust the Ukrainian population. Over the course of four days, Russia deployed nearly 1,500 drones, with more than half being jet-powered, as per Zelenskiy.
In a separate incident, a Russian strike triggered a fire at a terminal run by Nova Poshta, a private courier service, in the southern Odesa region, according to Gov. Oleh Kiper. Additionally, in Kryvyi Rih, an industrial area was targeted by a jet-powered drone, resulting in injuries to two individuals.
Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated their attacks on economic targets in recent weeks, focusing on key e-commerce entities and retail establishments. Russia has specifically targeted warehouses belonging to major supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods retailers in Ukraine. In a retaliatory move, Ukraine launched a drone strike on a logistics hub in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Russia’s increased air attacks, particularly the use of daytime drone waves, have disrupted daily life in Kyiv, halting public transportation and causing panic among residents. The metro service was temporarily halted, leaving passengers stranded on platforms during the alerts.
One such passenger, Yulianna Oliynyk, a nurse and psychologist, found herself stranded with her two sons during an air raid alert while attempting to reach a school. The disruption forced them to spend the night at a relative’s home, contemplating the idea of sleeping in the metro due to the persistent threats.
The ongoing drone attacks have instilled fear and uncertainty among the residents of Kyiv, with many struggling to navigate daily routines amidst the relentless bombardment.
