Canadian defender Moise Bombito is set to undergo surgery on his left tibia once more, as announced by his club team Nice. The decision came after Bombito, in a translated interview with Nice, revealed a conversation with the Canadian national team coach, Jesse Marsch, who expressed the need for his presence at the FIFA World Cup hosted in Canada. Despite battling chronic pain, Bombito was determined not to miss the opportunity to represent his country on home soil.
The 26-year-old center-back sustained a tibia fracture on Oct. 5 but managed to return in time to participate in the summer matches for Canada. Despite playing in three out of five games, including a full 90 minutes in a crucial win over South Africa, Bombito admitted to struggling through the matches due to his injury. Following the tournament, Bombito was back in Nice, still experiencing discomfort and pain, contemplating whether surgery was inevitable.
Describing the constant pain as an “electric shock” with every step, Bombito expressed his desire to resolve the issue that has plagued him for over a year. He highlighted the need to return to full fitness and give his best on the field without hindrance. Bombito, who joined Nice in 2024 after his stint with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer, played 35 games in his debut season before injuries limited his appearances in the subsequent season.
