This summer, Books and Backroads is back for its fourth year, expanding across the Maritimes with libraries in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island joining the journey. CBC is partnering with rural public libraries to connect readers with local stories. Audiences can engage with a curated reading list featuring local authors, participate in book club discussions on local CBC Radio programs, and attend live community events.
This year’s books include “Mirai: Montre et raconte/Show and Tell” by Monique Pereira at Cap-Pelé Public Library, N.B., “My Two Grandmothers” by Diane Carmel Léger at Cap-Pelé Public Library, N.B., “The Luckiest Ones: A Memoir of Fishing, Family, and Facing Cancer” by Vicki Reddin-Gauthier at Alberton Public Library, P.E.I., “The Spoon Stealer” by Lesley Crewe at Louisbourg, Cape Breton, N.S., “Secret Me” by Angel Jendrick at Kensington Heritage Library, P.E.I., “The Berry Pickers” by Amanda Peters at Sheet Harbour Public Library, N.S., “Run, Hide, Repeat” by Pauline Dakin at Perth-Andover Public Library, N.B., and “Haunted Heart” by Laverne Stewart at Dalhousie Centennial Library at Ugpi’Ganjig First Nation Eel River Bar, N.B.
Throughout the summer, book club discussions, author interviews, and recordings from participating libraries will be featured on local CBC Radio shows. Additionally, free book club events will be held, offering attendees the opportunity to meet authors and win CBC prizes.
