Anthony Joshua is set to face off against relatively unknown boxer Kristian Prenga on July 25 before eventually meeting his long-time rival Tyson Fury.
The former two-time heavyweight champion has been out of action since his dominant victory over Jake Paul in December. Joshua was initially expected to return in March but was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria shortly after his win, resulting in the loss of his close friends Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Following a period of recovery from the harrowing incident, the 36-year-old has been spotted training with his former rival turned friend Oleksandr Usyk in Valencia. Joshua recently made a public appearance in the UK to support Derek Chisora in his bout against Deontay Wilder and was also present to witness Tyson Fury’s win over Arslanbek Makhmudov. Fury quickly called for a showdown with Joshua, who initially declined the offer.
However, Joshua has now agreed to terms for a fight with Fury in November, conditional on his victory against Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this summer. The match will be broadcast on DAZN. Joshua expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the ring, stating, “I’m delighted to have agreed to compete on July 25 in Saudi Arabia. I’m eager to resume competition and continue where I left off. The landlord will collect his rent. That is certain.”
Prenga, an Albanian heavyweight with an impressive record of 20 knockout wins and only one defeat, confidently stated, “Anthony Joshua is a formidable opponent, but he underestimated me in choosing me to fight. This match will be a game-changer for both of us. I am prepared to surprise the world in Saudi Arabia this July.”
