“Trump Renames Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’: Controversy Erupts”

Date:

In a recent development, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” sparking controversy and discontent among some Americans, including Democratic representatives Tim Kennedy, Joe Morelle, and Debbie Dingell. The legislators introduced the Hands Off Our Great Lakes Act to reverse the name change and prevent further renaming of any Great Lake.

The renaming issue gained attention when Google renamed Lake Ontario to “Lake America” on its maps for U.S. users, and reports emerged that Trump urged Apple to do the same. However, online mapping service MapQuest announced it would not alter the name.

Kennedy, representing a district bordering Canada, criticized the executive order as a distraction from more pressing economic matters and emphasized the strong historical ties between the U.S. and Canada. He highlighted the significant economic and cultural connections shared between the two countries and expressed confidence that the American people would hold the administration accountable in the upcoming elections.
