“Rare ‘Almost Blood Moon’ Eclipse Graces Americas, Europe, and Africa”

Date:

Skywatchers had the opportunity to witness a partial lunar eclipse spanning the Americas, Europe, and Africa from Thursday evening into Friday. Dubbed the “almost blood moon,” the lunar eclipse reached its peak just after midnight ET, with Earth’s shadow covering 96% of the moon’s visible surface, creating a nearly total lunar eclipse. This rare event was a sight to behold, as the next lunar eclipse is not expected until New Year’s Eve in 2028.

In Canada, the full moon was visible during the lunar eclipse phase in Vancouver. Additionally, stunning images captured the partial lunar eclipse over Osborne Village in Winnipeg and the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant in Toronto.

In various parts of the Americas, individuals captured the celestial event, including a person taking a cellphone photo of the lunar eclipse at Brazos Bend State Park in Texas, the lunar eclipse behind the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., and the moon rising behind the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The lunar eclipse was also observed in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and Salvador, Bahia state, Brazil.

Across Europe, the moon during the partial lunar eclipse was visible over Warsaw, with people gathered at Parliament Hill in London to witness the event. A plane was seen approaching for landing in Lisbon against the backdrop of the partial lunar eclipse, while the lunar eclipse was admired in the night sky in Goutz, France.

The captivating images from this celestial event have left sky enthusiasts eager for the next lunar eclipse in 2028.
