Fatal Shooting at Swiss Rave Leaves One Dead

Date:

A fatal incident occurred at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau, resulting in one fatality and five individuals sustaining injuries early on Sunday as reported by local authorities. The police are actively seeking the perpetrator, with motives and details surrounding the incident yet to be fully determined.

A 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were transported to a hospital with varying degrees of injury severity. All the victims are Swiss residents, and their identities have been withheld in accordance with privacy regulations.

Police were notified about the shooting in the capital city of Aarau, located 46 kilometers west of Zurich, around 2:30 a.m., according to police spokesperson Pascal Wenzel speaking to Swiss public broadcaster SRF. The shooting took place during the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 event at the Schachen district’s horse racing track, with a significant police presence and emergency services on-site.

A manhunt is currently in progress, and residents have been urged to avoid the vicinity. Both local and German authorities are involved in the search efforts for the suspect. Witnesses initially confused the gunshots for fireworks until a warning prompted them to take cover.

Following the conclusion of the rave, the shooting occurred, leading police to relocate the remaining attendees to a nearby gym for safety. Authorities have called for any individuals with footage or images of the incident to cooperate with the investigation.

The Aargau Racing Club, managing the venue, expressed deep sympathy for those impacted by the tragic event and commended the swift response of emergency personnel. Swiss DJ Tekibo, who performed at the event, expressed sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that such violence contradicts the essence of techno and rave culture as spaces of freedom and security.

Aarau, a city with a population of 22,300, is situated approximately 30 kilometers south of the German border.
