“Canada Dominates Puerto Rico in Olympic Volleyball Qualifier”

Top-seeded Canada is on the verge of securing a spot in the Olympics after defeating Puerto Rico in the inaugural match of the women’s volleyball NORCECA Continental Qualifier in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Canada’s triumph over Puerto Rico, with set scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-10, resulted in a clean sweep of the best-of-five match. The Canadian team excelled in various aspects, leading in attacks (42-32), aces (4-2), and capitalizing on more points from errors (17-12), while also dominating in blocks with a scoreline of 12-2.

Expressing satisfaction with his team’s performance, Canadian head coach Giovanni Guidetti commended the players for their mental resilience and unwavering confidence, even when Puerto Rico momentarily held the lead in the second set. Looking ahead to the next challenge, Guidetti expressed optimism and anticipation for the upcoming tough match on Saturday. In the quest for an Olympic qualification, Canada is set to face the Dominican Republic in the next match.

Kiera Van Ryk emerged as the leading scorer of the match, contributing 20 points for Canada, with an impressive performance comprising 13 successful attacks, three blocks, and four aces.
