This novel will transport readers back to the familiar setting of Barry’s Bay, Ont., a town featured in Fortune’s previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” where the author herself spent her formative years.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement as she began writing “Only in Summer” after acquiring her own lakeside cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-standing dream since her family’s lakefront home was sold.
The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, also harbors a similar aspiration to own property in Barry’s Bay. Known as Ellie, she is the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier Barry’s Bay stories. Ellie’s childhood memories in the town fuel her desire to purchase a property there, but her plans take an unexpected turn when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a grand mansion, owned by a charming newcomer.
While details beyond this point remain undisclosed, one can anticipate a tale of hesitant romance unfolding against the picturesque backdrop of the lakeside setting.
