Russian officials are urging Vladimir Putin to target Westminster Bridge in retaliation for British drones allegedly targeting a Russian-held crossing during a Ukrainian operation. The incident, which occurred last March on the Konka River, involved the deployment of British Malloy T-150 heavy-lift drones by Ukraine to attack the bridge.
The revelation of British involvement has sparked anger in Moscow, with propagandist Vladimir Kornilov criticizing the UK’s role in the sabotage. Kornilov suggested that Russia should openly take credit for destroying Westminster Bridge, jokingly implying that other groups like the Houthis or Iranians would carry out the attack.
Kornilov accused the British of celebrating their participation in the terrorist act and questioned their reaction if Westminster Bridge, located near the Houses of Parliament, was indeed destroyed. The use of drones in the Konka bridge attack was initially believed to be a standard aerial strike, but it was later revealed that Ukraine’s 426th Unmanned Systems Regiment conducted multiple missions over two months using heavy-lifting drones to deliver explosives while evading Russian detection.
Ukrainian Colonel Oleksii Bulakhov, the regiment’s commander, highlighted the strategic use of shaped charges to target the bridge’s vulnerabilities from below, despite its external robustness. The operation marked a significant development in the ongoing conflict, showcasing the innovative tactics employed by the Ukrainian military.
