Bodycam footage has captured the moment when Robert Bush, a funeral home director, was detained on a plane as part of a major investigation into his business. The arrest occurred on March 10, 2024, shortly after the discovery of over 30 bodies at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull. Police bodycam footage released by Humberside Police shows Bush being approached by officers on an American Airlines flight at London Heathrow.
As officers made their way through the plane, a flight attendant instructed passengers to remain seated. The lead officer then identified Bush and requested him to stand up and accompany them outside. Bush, visibly surprised, gathered his belongings before being escorted out of the plane.
He was informed of his arrest on suspicion of various charges, including preventing a lawful burial and fraud. This development follows Bush’s admission of guilt to the charges at Hull Crown Court. Bush, 48 years old and formerly from Kirk Ella, was the director of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors. He changed his plea on multiple charges related to preventing burials and theft from charities during the court proceedings.
Initially denying the charges at a previous plea hearing, Bush had admitted to fraud-related offenses. The case drew significant media attention, with journalists gathering outside the court to cover the proceedings. Following the change in plea, the trial scheduled for October has been canceled, and Bush’s sentencing hearing is now expected in July.
