Driving through the scenic countryside of Pembrokeshire, you might come across what appears to be an extraterrestrial aircraft that has landed on Earth. Fear not, as you have stumbled upon a unique Airbnb experience, not an alien invasion.
Nestled on a secluded country road near the Welsh village of Templeton lies the Melin Mabes glamping site. Offering three distinct accommodations amidst nature’s beauty – a classic caravan, a charming treehouse, and the quirky Spodnic UFO. Previously showcased on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, this cosmic-themed lodging is housed in a small fibreglass structure acquired by the owners from eBay.
Originally constructed for London’s 2012 Olympics to shelter generators, the ‘UFO’ was transformed by the owners into a one-of-a-kind retreat. Guests can now book a stay through Airbnb or the Melin Mabes website for a truly unique experience.
Inside the pod, visitors will find silver-clad walls adorned with sci-fi collectibles and whimsical decor. The space includes a double bed, bunk beds for four guests, and an inflatable alien for added fun.
At the heart of the pod, a ladder ascends to a platform with a glass dome, perfect for stargazing or enjoying picturesque views of the Welsh countryside. Outdoors, a covered kitchen area offers essential amenities like a fridge, cooker, and running water, along with seating arrangements.
A highlight of this unconventional accommodation is the bathroom, cleverly designed as a replica TARDIS box, complete with a private shower, toilet, and sink, ensuring a hassle-free experience for guests.
Adjacent to the Spodnic, guests can indulge in a private hot tub and outdoor shower, all within an enclosed outdoor space ideal for bringing along furry companions for some outdoor fun.
Just a short distance from the village, guests can explore local amenities, including a cozy pub and nearby cottages. A popular family-friendly attraction, the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, is located nearby, offering various entertainment options and accommodations like lodges and glamping, with free entry to the attractions for guests.
Approximately a 15-minute drive away, Saundersfoot Beach beckons with its sandy shores and shallow waters, perfect for family outings. The beach features a working harbor and a historic lighthouse, providing a picturesque backdrop for visitors to enjoy freshly caught seafood from local restaurants.
