Russian airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals and the injury of several others in Kyiv and its nearby areas early Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital. The ongoing conflict began in 2022, with Russia intensifying its air assaults on Ukraine in recent months due to significant battlefield setbacks.
Kyiv and its vicinity have been plagued by swarms of advanced drones over the past five days, causing casualties, property damage, and disruptions to daily life. These drones, equipped with jet engines, are more challenging to intercept, leading to constant air-raid alerts and widespread disturbance among the population.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, revealed that Russian drones and ballistic missiles targeted residential zones and railway infrastructure during the intense overnight attacks. Sybiha called for increased economic pressure on Russia from Ukraine’s allies and proposed using Russia’s frozen assets abroad to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.
In the latest round of attacks, eight people were killed in Kyiv, mainly railway workers, while three more individuals were injured in a daytime drone strike that ignited a fire in a high-rise apartment building. Additionally, in Boryspil, four individuals lost their lives, including an Indian citizen, and 13 others were wounded in an assault that struck a residential building and other locations.
Russian strikes extended to a border crossing near NATO-member Romania, affecting thousands of families who were left without power, as reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The conflict has also seen Ukraine retaliating against Russia by targeting oil refineries and logistical infrastructure, including warehouses belonging to online retailers.
Amid escalating tensions, both sides have engaged in reciprocal airstrikes, causing damage to civilian facilities and sparking fires in various regions. The situation remains volatile, with the international community closely monitoring developments and calls for peaceful resolutions to the conflict.
