“Minnesota Frost re-signs Olympic champion Kendall Coyne Schofield”

Date:

The Minnesota Frost has secured the services of captain Kendall Coyne Schofield for the next two years by signing her to a new contract. This decision lays to rest any speculations about the 34-year-old taking a break following her contribution to the United States’ Olympic gold medal victory in February.

With this re-signing, the Frost will maintain their veteran leadership core heading into their fourth season, having retained key players who led them to the PWHL’s inaugural two Walter Cup triumphs in 2024 and 2025. Alongside Coyne Schofield, alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek complete this experienced group.

Expressing her excitement for the upcoming seasons, Coyne Schofield stated, “We’re thrilled to be back for the next two seasons and can’t wait to return for Season 4. I’m ready to put in the work to bring the Walter Cup back to Minnesota.”

Hailing from Chicago, Coyne Schofield boasts an impressive sporting resume as a four-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist. She played a pivotal role in the negotiations that led to the establishment of the PWHL back in the summer of 2023.

In the previous season, Coyne Schofield recorded 12 goals and 23 points in 23 games, despite missing seven games due to an upper-body injury sustained during the Milan-Cortina Games. Her career statistics in the PWHL, comprising 63 points from 30 goals and 33 assists in 77 games, rank her third on the league’s all-time list.

Initially one of the Frost’s foundational player signings, Coyne Schofield’s playing future for the current season was uncertain as she remained unsigned, leaving her vulnerable during the PWHL’s expansion phase in June. However, with her contract now secured, the Frost boasts a roster of 17 players, including eight members from their previous cup-winning squads.

Although the Frost finished third in the standings last season, they faced elimination in a decisive Game 5 of the semifinal series against eventual champions Montreal.
