Jos Verstappen escaped a serious car crash at the Rally of Wallonia on Sunday without any injuries, despite his vehicle being badly damaged after hitting a tree. Pictures from the scene show Verstappen’s Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 overturned near foliage with a wheel missing and extensive damage.
The father of four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, Jos was participating in the rally with co-driver Jesper Vermeulen when their car slid off the track and collided with a tree.
Fortunately, there were no major injuries in the accident, as confirmed by Verstappen to GPblog, stating he was unharmed. The car had already suffered damage from an earlier incident during the competition’s fourth stage.
Despite the setback, Verstappen made a remarkable comeback, finishing third behind Adrian Fernemont and Maxime Potty at the end of Saturday’s events. However, he and Vermeulen had to withdraw after the crash on Sunday.
The Rally of Wallonia is known for its technical challenges, taking place on tarmac with high-speed and demanding routes featuring tight, winding roads and fast sections.
This year, Verstappen competed without his regular co-driver Renaud Jamoul, who was unavailable due to ankle surgery. Max Verstappen’s future in Formula 1 is uncertain, with fans eagerly awaiting the Miami Grand Prix after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia events due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The pause in the race schedule has given Max time to reflect on his future, as he has struggled to adjust to the FIA’s new rules and regulations. The 28-year-old has criticized the new format, expressing his discontent with the changes that have affected the enjoyment of racing.
