Matthew Perry’s portrayal of Chandler Bing on the iconic show “Friends” captivated audiences for years. However, following his passing in 2023, fans were shocked to learn about his struggles with ketamine addiction, which contrasted with his beloved TV persona.
Netflix is set to unveil a comprehensive look at the life of Matthew Perry in a new three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry.” The series will delve into Perry’s evolution from a rising comedy star to his renowned role on “Friends,” featuring never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including close friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick.
As a grief specialist, Bowick has openly shared her emotional journey after Perry’s death. She expressed, “It has taken me time to be prepared to recount the memories and complexities of loving Matthew – to appreciate him as a multifaceted individual beyond his on-screen character and addiction struggles.”
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased from a ketamine overdose in his home hot tub at age 54. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to charges related to providing him with the substance. Notably, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who supplied Perry with ketamine, is currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
Netflix has revealed that the docuseries will not only feature fond recollections from Perry’s admirers but will also shed light on his personal challenges, honoring his legacy of transparency and advocacy. The highly-anticipated series is scheduled to debut on October 27.
