A father and son duo, George, aged 57, and Josh Kohler, 23, hailing from Norfolk, have embarked on a remarkable global cycling journey that spans more than 25 countries over 400 days. Their ambitious quest, named ‘Pedal the Planet’, has led them through diverse terrains, ranging from desolate deserts to imposing mountain ranges and lush rice fields.
Commencing their expedition from Norfolk on 29th March the previous year, the pair has covered extensive distances, nearing an impressive 30,000 kilometers by journey’s end. Along the way, they have raised over £30,000 for charity. As they approach the conclusion of their extraordinary adventure, George and Josh are on the verge of clinching three Guinness World Records titles related to their cycling feat.
Their global sojourn has been fraught with challenges, including battling strong headwinds, extreme temperatures, and navigating treacherous terrains. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they have found solace in the camaraderie and support they share, both with each other and the people they have encountered along the way.
While reminiscing about their unforgettable experiences, George and Josh singled out China as the standout destination of their expedition. Josh, an adept videographer, expressed their deep fondness for the country’s vibrant culture, breathtaking scenery, and hospitable locals. George particularly highlighted their awe-inspiring moments in China, such as walking along the Great Wall and beholding the stunning Hani rice terraces.
Reflecting on the emotional and physical toll of their journey, Josh acknowledged the strain it placed on their relationship as father and son. However, he emphasized the profound bonds they have forged and the invaluable lessons learned throughout their global odyssey.
As they near the end of their epic venture, Josh and George continue to inspire with their philanthropic efforts, having raised significant funds for UNICEF and supported Bicycle Links, a charitable organization that provides refurbished bikes to those in need. Their journey, chronicled on social media, has captivated audiences worldwide, encouraging others to follow their adventures and contribute to their noble cause.
