Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Canada next week, as per sources familiar with the matter. The upcoming visit, first disclosed by the Globe and Mail, has been substantiated by two separate sources. It is reported that Zelenskyy’s itinerary in Canada may involve two different stops.
Zelenskyy’s previous visit to Canada occurred in December, during which he had a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the U.S. for discussions with President Donald Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict resolution. The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to provide any comments on the anticipated visit.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned that several nations, including the U.S. and China, are prepared to assist in reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Putin emphasized that ultimately the resolution must come from the two conflicting countries themselves. He expressed gratitude for those attempting to contribute to a resolution and expressed optimism about the chances for peace.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking in Kyiv, expressed confidence in a renewed momentum in peace efforts, highlighting increased political and diplomatic engagement in various global capitals. Following 4½ years of Europe’s most lethal conflict since World War II, both sides rarely share positive outlooks on peace prospects. Their last meeting for U.S.-mediated talks took place in February.
